Michael Taylor was referred to the ATTAIN Lab after graduating from high school and feeling unsure of what to do next. He was very nervous about being in a new learning environment with new instructors when he started at the ATTAIN Lab.
“I liked the positive and welcoming space the most. The ATTAIN Lab staff are very understanding and patient with the people here and are always happy to help,” said Michael.
He first participated in career exploration by completing career assessments and utilizing Edmentum to explore different options, such as office administration, food service, and computer science.
Before applying for jobs and moving into employment, he felt he needed to work on his confidence and social skills.
“My social skills have developed drastically since I started, as I was taken out of my comfort zone. I’ve been able to start my life and get comfortable and familiar thanks to the ATTAIN Lab staff,” said Michael.
Next, he completed the Microsoft Word Certification, built a resume that highlighted his newly gained skills, attended career fairs, and practiced interviewing.
Michael is now interning at InterFaith Works as an Administrative Assistant. His employer commended his Microsoft skills and has continuously given him more responsibilities due to the training he received at the ATTAIN Lab.
“Being a recent high school graduate, I applied for jobs for the first time, went to job fairs, got Microsoft certified, did my first interview, and this led to starting my internship with InterFaith Works,” said Michael.
