Originally from Afghanistan, Sediqullah Elham arrived in the United States in December 2023. Prior to his arrival, he lived in Egypt where he studied and taught English for 11 years. He wasted no time in connecting with the Syracuse ATTAIN Lab to continue developing his professional computer skills while pursuing the next steps in his career.
Sediqullah already had a strong foundation in computer skills and Microsoft Office, so he greatly appreciated the opportunity to work remotely and independently. Thanks to “the staff’s positive attitude and support,” he says,
“I learned basic Excel skills at the ATTAIN Lab…and received Excel lessons which were very helpful to dig deeper into the Excel program.”
He was especially grateful to be “provided Microsoft Office for [his] laptop” but notes that, “when [he] had questions, [ATTAIN staff] were always there to answer them.”
“After getting basic Excel skills, I was able to confidently apply for jobs.”
Sediqullah has found a position as the Afghan Health Coordinator at the Center for New Americans, a refugee resettlement program operated by Interfaith Works of Central New York. As part of his work, he now has the opportunity to refer other new Americans to the ATTAIN Lab to begin their own education and career journeys!
